The closest mountain to the coast, San Antón is 500 metres tall and can be seen from any part of the city. It is particularly prominent in the East of Malaga as it rises above the Malagueta promenade.

To get to the start of the route, drive eastwards on the motorway towards Rincón de la Victoria. Take the exit for El Palo and follow signs up to Pinares de San Antón, a swanky neighbourhood with luxurious villas built in to the mountain.
Drive all the way up and park your car at the top. There are two starting points, the east and west side which are signposted.

This is the entrance to the park where you begin the walk on a wide path. Even from the start of the route, the views are spectacular as you are high above the other mountain tops. Enjoy looking down on Malaga and the coast below.

The climb soon becomes very steep and rather precarious as the ground is very loose. Be careful where you put your feet as rocks can slip away from underneath you!

There are actually two mountain peaks in this park. They are very close together and are connected with a path so I recommend climbing from one to the other.

San Antón is famous for the metal cross that stands high on the top of the mountain.

The views from here are 360: you can see Montes de Malaga behind the mountain and the coastline to the west; stretching all the way to Benalmádena. Looking east gives you a birds eye view over the entire city, right to the end of El Palo.

Because of the stunning views and it’s close proximity to Málaga, this is a very popular walk. I would avoid it on the weekends as the top of the mountain gets very busy. Alternatively, go earlier or later in the day so you miss the crowds and enjoy the mountain’s serenity.
