Frigiliana

Heading East towards Nerja, settled in amongst the hills, is the picturesque white ‘pueblo’ Frigiliana.

The town is a forty five minute drive from Malaga eastward along the coast. The coach company Alsa runs frequent bus services to the town, first stopping at it’s coastal neighbour Nerja.

Frigiliana is a perfectly preserved whitewash town. Away from the mass tourism of the Costa del Sol, it is a relic of Andalusia’s old town lifestyle.

It’s windy cobbled streets feature brilliant flower arrangements and charming coloured doors. There are also sweet little shops with local products including pottery and handmade food produce.

However, being built on a mountainside means the pueblo’s streets are very steep. It’s an uphill climb but the views further up the town are worth it.

Perching on a hilltop over the sea, Frigiliana offers stunning scenes of the coastline and the surrounding countryside.

The white buildings and blue sky provide a stark yet peaceful contrast.

If you fancy experiencing one of Andalusia’s most emblematic whitewashed towns, Frigiliana is a perfect day trip from Malaga.
