Halloween

NEP English School loves Halloween.

The preparation was pretty extensive. My colleagues and I spent a whole morning decorating the academy for the celebrations. From spider webs to skeletons and spooky music, every tiny detail had been thought through to make the children’s Halloween experience unforgettable.

The children loved it and most came to their lessons in fancy dress. Their costumes were fantastic and there was a huge variation; from a zombies to princesses, everyone had made an effort.

Halloween is very popular in Spain and young people love it. During the lessons, we did spooky quizzes and word searches and went Trick or Treating. The students visited the other classrooms to admire the other children’s costumes and ‘politely’ ask for sweet treats.

What’s more, the owner of the school goes all out for the celebrations. Every year, she dresses up in the most horrifying costume you can imagine and prowls around the academy scaring the students.

This year was no different. I must admit that when I first saw her, I jumped out my skin!

All the lights were switched off and spine chilling music was turned on while she lurked around the corridors. The academy was filled with shrills and squeals coming for terrified children, and adults! The reaction of the students was priceless. Some couldn’t cope and started crying, cowering behind me, sobbing. Others loved the spectacle and shrieked with laughter. And some, particularly the younger ones, didn’t react at all. To prove they were grown up not scared, they just blinked at the hideous woman and continued on with their work. The mix of emotions around the school was hugely entertaining.

So there you have it: Halloween at NEP is  a true spectacle and is certainly one of the highlights if the academic year. Not to be missed!
