How to Dance in Ibiza

After witnessing Spanish style night life during the winter months, the Ibiza summer scene came as a bit of a shock. Suddenly small bars playing reggaeton and bachata were drowned out by world famous clubs blasting out House music. ‘House’ is what Ibiza is known for and people come from all corners of the world to enjoy the islands’ ‘summer beats.’

However, compared to the wonderfully lively Latin music we were used to, House was monotonous, repetitive and mind-numbing. (It’s probably a whole different story on drugs, of course.) Famous DJ s play mixes in stunning venues in front of huge crowds, but I found it hard to understand the appeal of this unexciting music.

With no real rhythm or lyrics, your dancing becomes very limited and minimal movements make you look like you’re having a pretty shit time. No interaction is involved, your night becomes a solo act of you trying to ‘move to the music.’ If you do not conform to a certain style of moves, you are immediately spotted and are clearly not appreciating House music properly. It became funny to watch thousands of people, supposedly loving these sick beats, stony faced and dancing drearily. Or not dancing at all..

For this reason, my friend Allison and I decided to create a video showing the true colours of the Ibiza clubbing scene. While filming, we met people from Germany to Brazil, all coming to experience the island’s infamous House music. It didn’t take long to capture the nightlife as many tourists took their dance moves very seriously.

See for yourself and watch the link below. We hope you find it informative and educating and after watching maybe you’ll have what it takes to come and party in Ibiza.
