La isla mágica

Aside from its nightlife, Ibiza is also well known for its mystical, Bohemian vibes. With such breathtaking scenery, many people see the island as a tranquil retreat and a place to ‘find oneself’ amidst the natural beauty.

This hippy sensation is exaggerated throughout the summer and becomes Ibiza’s trademark but it’s not all superficial. You can feel the islands alternative vibes through both its nature and its people; a relaxed, deep thinker with a liking for dreadlocks, piercings, tattoos and drugs is definitely a type here. The slow tempo of life and the wild landscape attracts those escaping the norm in search of pure serenity.

Es Vedra

Ibiza’s most famous mystical landmark has got to be the magical rock named Es Vedra. Found just off the coast from Cala D’Hort, this looming piece of rock stands prominent in the ocean, its unique shape giving it a mysterious touch. The rock is known for its magical qualities; legend has it that anyone who touches the surface enhances their masculinity or femininity thanks to its powerful vibes. It is also said to be the third most magnetic place in the world. Sunset is the most special time to see Es Vedra as it appears to be glowing; radiating mystical energy. Many come to the viewpoint, located en route to Cala D’Hort, to meditate or clear their head. (I’ve heard some groups bring drums to ‘connect’) IMG_0620 Above the viewpoint, on the very edge of a sheer cliff, is one Ibiza’s many towers: Torre de sa Pirata. Wanderers used to be able to venture inside and admire Es Vedra through the towers stone window but sadly it’s now shut up. You get the best perspective of the rock from the tower. The magnificent view gives a true sense of escapism; on this island you can become completely detached from the real world and enjoy nature at its finest. IMG_0622-0 IMG_0621

Atlantis

Around the headland from Es Vedra lies the distinctive beach ‘Sa Pedrera,’ also known as Atlantis. The name is enough to tell you that this is another magical place, unique rock formations giving it the sensation of an ‘underworld.’ The climb down is not easy; a steep descent with loose rocks sand dunes, but the inaccessibility of the place makes it all the more special. It’s hard to describe what’s down there, the unique shapes can only be properly appreciated in person. The rock has steep, straight edges, with rock pools carved in crevasses. Exploring was tricky with such a difficult surface but we managed to clamber over the structures, having to watch our step carefully. image (3) The rock’s ‘soft’ quality has allowed people to carve their names into the sides and sculpt faces and symbols into the surface. I was totally in awe of the place but couldn’t understand how natural erosion could create such bizarre formations. However, I was told later that the reason for the sheer drops and steep crevasses was because years ago rock was extracted from the bay to build the walls and buildings of Dalt Vila. There still seems to be some confusion as to what has been the work of humans and what has been left by the sea. image (5)     image (4)Nevertheless, it certainly is a stunning place and incomparable to any other beach. The nature on this island is unlike any other; it really does have a magical touch .
